Some Other Premonitions

There are several reports about some personal precognition. A handful of people was, for example, dissuaded from travelling on the Titanic by a dream they had themselves or by a dream of a close relative or friend in which a large ship sinks in the North Atlantic. Some others had quite an uneasy feeling – to whatever reason: Mrs. Hart, for instance, thought that "something terrible will happen," her daughter Eva later recalled. Therefore, Mrs. Hart never slept at night while travelling on the Titanic.
Others on land, on the other hand, dreamed of a sinking vessel (allegedly) in the very moment when the Titanic was sinking.

In May 1912, the story "The White Ghost of Disaster" by Mayn Clew Garnett was published in the Popular Magazine – but this issue was in press before the Titanic disaster. This story about a ship, the Admiral, colliding with an iceberg, and then sinking with serious loss of life, was therefore written just before the sinking of the Titanic. Like in Robertson's novel, some parallels to the Titanic can be found: The Admiral was 800 feet long, was going at a speed of 22.5 knots and also carried inadequate lifeboats. Unlike the Titanic, it struck the iceberg head-on, and sank within 15 minutes.
Also a lot of poems, such as "A Tryst" by Celia Thaxter and "The Berg" by Herman Melville, have been published before the Titanic disaster treating the subject of the sinking of an ocean liner due to a collision with an iceberg. This shows that the dangers of icebergs were well known in these days.
Some other strange coincidences have also been pointed out: In Liverpool, the Titanic's port of registration, the entire electricity supply suddenly failed shortly before 9.00 p.m. on April 14, 1912.
It was even claimed that the Titanic sank because it carried the Hope Diamond, which was considered as a jewel of ill-luck. This theory, however, is easily disproved: The Hope Diamond is now owned by the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, and was therefore not carried by the Titanic.
